Basic
Network Troubleshooting Guide (Print this page for
your records) |
If you are unable to reach the internet follow these
steps first:
A. For a single computer
* After each of the following steps go to Internet
Explorer or other internet browser to see if this
has taken care of the problem. Close and/or refresh
your browser each time. Restarting your computer
may also be necessary.
1. Check all connections from power injector to
computer and ‘antenna’
2. Restart the Community Wireless ‘antenna’
a. Unplug the power cord
b. Wait 60 seconds
c. Plug the power cord back into the device
3. On your computer go to control panel and select
network connections; click local area connection.
a. Make sure this connection is enabled.
4. Again in the control panel; open internet options
a. Click connections and make sure never dial a
connection is applied.
b. Select LAN settings and make sure none of the
boxes are selected.
5. Go back to network connections in the control
panel
a. Right click Local Area Connection
b. Select properties
c. Highlight TCP/IP and select properties. There
should be IP addresses in the appropriate boxes.
These should match the IP addresses left by your
installer.
d. If not; change them back.
B. For multiple computers (LAN)
* After each of the following steps go to Internet
Explorer or other internet browser to see if this
has taken care of the problem. Close and/or refresh
your browser each time. Restarting your computer
may also be necessary.
1. Check all connections from power injector to
computer, router and ‘antenna’
2. Restart the Community Wireless ‘antenna’
and your router
a) Unplug the power cord to the ‘antenna’
b) Unplug the power cord to your router
c) Wait 60 seconds
d) Plug the power cord back into your router
e) Plug the ‘antenna’ power cord back
into the device
3. Make certain that your network connection is
Enabled
a) Open the control panel
b) Open network connections
c) If there is an Ethernet cable connecting your
computer to your router you will need to look for
Local Area Connection, if your computer connects
to your router wirelessly you need Wireless Network
Connection
d) Verify that the appropriate connection is enabled
4. Again in the control panel; open internet options
a) Click connections and make sure never dial a
connection is applied.
b) Select LAN settings and make sure that this is
appropriately configured for your router.
5. Check that the Static IP address is correct on
your router
a) In the control panel, open network connections
b) Select the appropriate connection (Local or Wireless)
c) Click on the support tab
d) Write down the default gateway, this is the address
of your router
e) Open an internet browser, click ‘stop’
f) Type your router’s address into the address
bar, click ‘go’
g) A login window will open, enter the user name
and password for your router
i. Consult the owner/user guide for default user
name and password or
ii. Contact the person who set up your router/internal
network
h) Verify that your router is set to static IP
i) Make sure that the static IP, subnet mask, default
gateway, and DNS numbers match the numbers left
by the installer.
j) If they do not; change them back.
C. Virus and Spyware

virus', spyware, trojans, etc.
